The Builder's Club
The Ashland District is one of the fastest growing districts in the
Virginia Conference. In 2007, Ashland District churches received
372 new members for a total membership of 18,842. As the suburbs
of Northern Virginia move southward past Fredericksburg, and the
Richmond metropolitan area expands northward, the Ashland District has
been given a staggering opportunity to reach new people with the Good
News of God’s love in Jesus.
Many of our existing churches are located in growing areas and are embracing
their new neighbors with the gospel. Experience has also shown us that new
congregations are particularly effective at evangelizing persons with little or
no prior faith experience. In addition to supporting our growing
established churches, the Ashland District needs to build many new churches to
address the rapid population growth in our area.
You are invited to become a part of the growing ministry of our district by enrolling in the Ashland District Builder’s Club. We invite you to commit to respond to a maximum of two calls each calendar year to help new churches build and to help existing churches expand or renovate.
In the past, the Club has raised between $8,000 and $10,000 per call.
Your subscription may be for $10, $25, $50, $100 or more per call, or for
whatever is in your ability to give (either higher or lower).
What is the Builder’s Club?
It’s a group of laity and clergy across and beyond the Ashland District who
have pledged financial support for helping new churches build and for helping
existing churches expand or renovate on the district.
How does the Club raise money?
Twice each year by issuing a call to its members. When members receive a call letter, they are invited to respond with a donation to the Club.
How much do members give?
There is no minimum or maximum pledge amount. When you join the Club,
you are invited to estimate how much you will give at each call. You may
be able to give $1. You might be able to give $100. Some give more!
What if I can’t give what I thought?
We understand. Give what you can, and both you and others will be
blessed. Maybe you could give more at the next call.
How can our church get Club funding?
The District Board of Missions will choose two church projects each year to
receive Builder’s Club funding. Both existing churches and our new
churches in building programs may apply. The pastor and lay leadership of
the church can write to the District Superintendent requesting the Club’s
support. Builder’s Club funding may only be given once the project is
under construction.
